Mauve Anthology is a collaborative storytelling project that brings together writers and visual artists to explore shared themes of folk, wild landscapes, memory, and connection.
Working across written and visual mediums, the project creates a space where different forms of storytelling can sit side by side, responding to and enriching one another. At its heart, Mauve Anthology is about connection: between artists, between disciplines, and between people and place. The project aims to foster a supportive and accessible creative community, where participants are encouraged to experiment, collaborate and share their work without pressure or hierarchy.
Mauve began as an informal exchange between myself and writer Amelia Grey, after I felt inspired to create visual work in response to a poem she had written. What started as a single creative dialogue quickly became something much richer. We found the process of responding to one another’s work deeply rewarding and recognised that others might benefit from a similar space for exchange and collaboration. From this, Mauve Anthology developed into an open call project. The call was intentionally broad and inclusive: no formal training or publishing experience was required, only a desire to tell a story. Contributors were invited to submit poetry, short prose, illustration, photography or mixed-media work that responded loosely to the project’s themes.
This openness allowed for a diverse range of voices, styles and interpretations to sit alongside one another. To support this sense of collaboration, a dedicated group chat was created for contributors, allowing for open discussion around editorial decisions, shared ideas and creative feedback.
Just as importantly, this space enabled artists and writers to connect beyond the scope of the anthology itself, forming ongoing relationships and offering mutual support outside the project. Alongside the anthology, the project includes an evolving plan of live-sharing, as the contributors span the entirety of the UK we are now considering an online launch party so as to be more inclusive . This gathering is still forming in response to the collective, collaborations and continued development, allowing Mauve Anthology to grow and adapt over time in response to its community.
